Project Z2:

Characterization of atomistic and electronic structures with ultra-high-resolution TEM
(since 2015)

Project Z2 aims at revealing information on the atomistic and electronic structure of the stable and metastable phases, as well as their defects, in the materials investigated in the SFB. Detailed studies by high-resolution (S)TEM, spectroscopy and nanodiffraction will be performed on the electronically active phases, defects, and their interrelation within the investigated variants of the resistively switching materials. In particular, we are trying to unravel the atomistic origin of the multilevel switching phenomena in model systems by using the aberration corrected TEM instruments available at the Ernst Ruska-Centre for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons (ER-C).

(2011 - 2015)

Project Z2 aims at obtaining information about the local structural and electronic properties of the stable and metastable phases in the materials and devices. Detailed high-resolution TEM studies will reveal the microscopic details of the electronically active defects and their interrelation in the investigated variants of the resistively switching materials. In particular, we are trying to unravel the atomistic origin of the multilevel switching phenomena, which will lay the foundation for new functionalities. We employ the aberration corrected TEM instruments available at the Ernst Ruska-Centre for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons (ER-C). Project Z2 is a central project and closely interacts with the affiliated projects in the areas A–C.
